HISTORY

The Warehouse was located at 95 India St in Providence at the foot of Benefit St on the water.  It began in 1969 by Robert, Matthew & Ann Chernov and lasted only two years because of unfair police fees and and harassment. Joe Doorley's City Hall did not like the rock n roll concerts especially after a riot caused by Sly & The Family Stone at the RI Auditorium which was promoted by Chernov.  Robert 'Skip' Chernov is regarded as the first 'big' promoter in Rhode Island bringing in acts like Janis Joplin, Led Zepplin, Neil Young...etc.  The Warehouse was a great idea but unfortunately conservative views made it short-lived.
